Ethereum Foundation Chairman: The traditional model of large Japanese companies hinders Web3 innovation and calls on large companies to change the status quo

On August 26th, at the WebX2025 event held in Japan, Aya Miyaguchi, the chairman of the Ethereum Foundation, stated that the current closed and vertically integrated model of large Japanese companies severely hinders the innovation and development of the Web3 field. In the current wave of Web3, this traditional model limits the growth space for startups. She emphasized that large Japanese companies urgently need to change the status quo and actively create an open cooperation platform for startups to help them grow.

In Aya Miyaguchi's view, the Web3 ecosystem should be like an "infinite garden", where everyone can participate and contribute, and this requires cooperation between large enterprises and startups. It is gratifying that she affirmed the active attempts of companies like Sony in transformation. She mentioned that Sony has begun to break through its own limitations, actively absorbing external innovative forces, and collaborating with startups.

Aya Miyaguchi called for fully unleashing the vitality of young people and startup companies in the Web3 field, building a more open and inclusive "infinite garden" ecosystem. This not only requires companies to innovate in technology and business models, but also to promote a cultural shift across the industry, breaking traditional thinking patterns to adapt to the development needs of the Web3 era. She hopes to see more Japanese companies taking solid steps in the Web3 field, pushing Japan to a favorable position in the global Web3 competition.
